The Many Benefits of Bikram Yoga

November 28th, 2009 by admin

Bikram yoga employs breathing techniques and poses which help practitioners achieve a high level of relaxation. This is achieved by using the breathing techniques and unique body poses. At first it would be difficult for some to rid themselves of mundane concerns. However, in due time and practice, Bikram yoga will help realign one’s focus, from outward to inward. This allows anyone to truly asses their true physical, mental, and emotional state. With this, the benefits of Bikram yoga is not only found in the physical improvements practitioners experience, but also in the mental and emotional rewards they gain as they become more sensitive to their own body and mind’s needs.

Normally, if you want to have a good cardio workout you jog, run, or bike. Unfortunately, these physical activities will have an impact on your body over time. Although these exercises are great in developing cardiovascular health, the repetitive motions of the activities will surely lead to injury. So as an alternative cardiovascular workout, Bikram yoga is an excellent option. Although it has lesser impact on the body, it is impressive how much Bikram yoga calories burn in one session. On top of that, it is also an effective muscle training workout. The various poses require the person to hold up their body for prolonged periods. The practitioner’s weight becomes a source of resistance. Muscles are strengthened as well as stretched. Bones are also strengthened. With special emphasis on the spine, Bikram yoga poses help people to increase their flexibility; thus, having a better range of motion.

Bikram yoga is performed in a room warmed to about one hundred degrees Fahrenheit. This will cause practitioners to sweat heavily. The heat loosens up the body. The relatively uncomfortable heat plus the sweat encourages practitioners to concentrate more on the activity since the warmth and sweat can be distractions. But more importantly, the heat opens up the body’s pores and dilates blood vessels. This will result in better circulation that will lead to more toxins released via sweat. Although the extra sweat may be beneficial as mentioned, it would be good if the practitioner would invest in some equipment that is specific for Bikram yoga. A good investment is a Bikram yoga mat, which absorbs sweat and prevents the practitioner from slipping.

A Bikram yoga session starts with the breathing technique called Pranayama. Doing this breathing technique, practitioners would stand and breathe deeply while their arms move in a specific manner. The Pranayama opens up the body and prepares it for the next pose. Practitioners then do some bending poses sideways, forwards, and backwards, loosening the spine.

Xylitol and Sinus Irrigation…

November 28th, 2009 by admin

When you have problems with your sinus area, such as a sinus infection, it’s a hassle. Not only will you have much pain, but you may not be able to sleep as well at night. But with the use of Xylitol with sinus irrigation, you might experience comfort once again.

Xylitol is found in wood sugar, and is actually already in our bodies. The body will make around 10 grams of this substance each day. Often used as a substitute to sugar in foods even, it’s not a drug. Used in many gums in order to help with preventing the tooth decaying that sugar can cause.

Not only is it thought that Xylitol with sinus irrigation should be done when you are suffering, but on a more regular basis. See it will help our sinuses and nasal passages out, because the bacteria that would normally attach itself inside our nasal passage may lessen.

Our bodies will react to the Xylitol that is sprayed into the nasal passage and be stimulated to create more to help defend the area. Plus that Xylitol will also reduce the salt that is sitting around in the passage, allowing the bodies antibiotics to work better and more effectively.

It’s not like using antibiotics that are given by the doctor, that your body may become immune too. Xylitol will not create that problem in your body, and you can continue to use it each time you feel an infection coming on. Though you should actually use it on a regular basis to help keep those bacteria down to a minimum. For the same reason, xylitol may be useful in the fight against gum disease.

So when asked why use Xylitol with sinus irrigation you now know why. It will help to keep the bacteria away, which will not only help with sinus infections, but also allergies. A substance that is already in our body, just by adding a bit more a big difference can be made.

Jill St.Cloud writes about sinus and nasal irrigation for relief from allergy symptoms and chronic sinus problems.

Acne Skin Care: Tips and Advice

Whether you have acne now or you have clear skin and just want to make sure that you do not get acne, there are a few very important acne skin care tips that you are going to want to keep in mind and which are going to help you with this. Of course using the right acne skin care products is very important if you already have acne problems, but there are a few acne skin care tips that are going to be useful no matter who you are.

Wash Your Face Day and Night

One of the most common things that people fail to do is wash their face, or they just don’t do it often enough. You have to make sure that you are washing your face day and night, and this is one of the best acne skin care tips that you will ever get. Choose a skin cleanser that is going to remove oil and makeup from off the face, but without over drying and without leaving the face feeling tight.

You should pick a face cleanser based on the skin type that you have. If you have dry skin or oily skin, there are going to be specific products that are better for you. If you wear makeup you must to take it off before going to bed at night, otherwise all this makeup is going to be sitting on your skin all night long and sinking in to your pores, resulting in clogged pores and most likely pimples and cysts

Sunscreen

Another of the best acne skin care tips that you can get is to wear sunscreen. Sure we all want to get that nice tanned glow, but you can still get it while wearing sunscreen, and this way you are going to be protecting your skin and making sure that you are not getting damaged by the harmful UV rays of the sun.

Everyone should put on sunscreen of at least SPF 15 before going out on a sunny day, and so make sure that you always have some handy.

Watch What You Eat

This topic has been the subject of great debate over the years, watching what you eat is going to be very important no matter what, and is still considered to be an important acne skin care tip. Stay away from greasy and salty foods and instead eat whole foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables.

You can get more tips about caring for your body at my website ItsMyLifeMyBody.com here is a great article on the Causes Of Pimples.

Cholesterol Testing The Most Import Aspect Of Life

November 27th, 2009 by admin

Cholesterol is basically a steroid found in the cell membranes and is lipid and waxy in nature. Blood plasma carries cholesterol, a product made by the liver, considered to be the most prolifically present sterol in human tissues. Since cholesterol does not dissolve in the blood and high levels of it can clog the blood vessels, cholesterol testing is very important.

Cholesterol can be described in two ways. One is a useful way known as HDL. This HDL helps in returning the excess cholesterol in the blood to the liver where it is flushed out. In this way blood clogging and heart attacks are minimized. But the LDL cholesterol has a way of combining whatever other substance is in the body, to the blood stream. This process thickens the blood and causes blood clogging in the blood vessels. When this happens, heart attacks happen frequently.

Prestigious institutions like American College of Preventive Medicine, American Heart Association, American Association of Family Physicians, American College of Cardiology, and over 40 others have endorsed the NCEP guidelines. Only the American College of Physicians have registered a dissent that cholesterol measurement is unwarranted in young adults and older men.

The expert panel of NCEP recommends that cholesterol levels should be checked at least once in 5 years in all adults, and HDL cholesterol is to be measured at the same time. Accurate and precise measurement of blood cholesterol is extremely important in the NCEP’S program. It stresses on accurate and precise measurement of blood cholesterol to reduce mortality and morbidity that attribute to coronary heart disease. A Cholesterol Reference Method of Laboratory Network was set up to improve measurement of cholesterol with validation of traceability of their assays.

Though cholesterol testing can be done once in five years for a normal person, it is highly recommended that patients with high cholesterol level, smokers, diabetics, hypertension patients and those who have crossed the age of 50 should have frequent check ups for cholesterol level. This results in the control of heart diseases and avoidance of heart attacks.

Cholesterol screening in children is good but for those above 20 regular tests is not necessary. Obese persons are highly liable for cholesterol and their lipid profile should be taken early and regularly.

Cholesterol testing results like these shows the level of risk – 200mg/dl means favorable, 200-239 border level, more than 240mg is a high risk factor and it needs to be taken care of seriously. Do regular cholesterol testing and live a happy life.
