I am South Asian, and live in Texas……..

Any chances for any of these schools is also greatly appreciated. Thank-you for your time….

Is my college list TOO AMBITIOUS?

Wwoej S, The best method to find out info is to contact a student. You can start looking for contact information for Texas colleges here. http://www.collegereviewed.com/Texas-Colleges-Universities.html Students always seem to know what’s up better than outsiders since they get to experience the classes and the lifestyle.

I think putting the ivies on there with a class rank of 89 is very ambitious, yes. The ivies can take the best of the best, so even if a very competitive school they might take one person. And frankly, that person isn’t going to be number 89 in the class – almost certainly they’ll be in the top 10. They want the best of the best, and you’re not there. Sorry. But you probably have a good shot at the other schools, or most of them anyway (Stanford is as good as an ivy; only accepts 10% of applicants).

December 23rd, 2008 by admin

I know that to be a doctor you need:
4 years of regular college
4 years Med School
3 years of internship at a hospital

Which regular 4-year colleges have good pre-med programs? (which ones have a good number of people getting to med school?)

I heard Duke was one of the good ones so which others are there. List as many possible and thanks in advance.

Duke is best….

Grades for medical school?

December 21st, 2008 by admin

My school doesn't offer honors classes in math. I have already taken Algebra I (made a B), Algebra II (A), Geometry (A), but they weren't honors. I plan on taking Pre Calc, Calculus, Trig., AP Calc., and AP Statistics. I want to get into Duke University. Will the fact that I didn't take honors math classes hurt my chances or will they take into consideration that the school didn't offer honors?

First off, you cannot go straight into medical school from high school, so the fact that your high school doesn't offer honors or AP classes in certain courses will not affect your chances for medical school. As far as getting into basic college, that should not matter much either. What they will be looking for in your case is to see that you took the most advance classes that were offered to you and that you got at least a B in each class. You should be striving to graduate with a minimum 3.5 gpa out of high school and of course having higher would be even better. Once your in college will absolutely have to maintain at bare minimum a 3.5 if you want to go on to medical school.

The Pact Intro

December 21st, 2008 by admin

SPARK MEDIA PRESENTS:
A gritty, provocative true-life story of three friends from the ‘hood, Rameck Hunt, Sampson Davis, and George Jenkins, who made a pact in high school to find a way to go to college and then medical school. They not only accomplished this, but they’re now spreading the word to inspire other inner-city kids to stay off of drugs, out of gangs and to take the educational route to a better life.
THE PACT captures the pathos of the men’s
individual journeys, the integrity of their voices and the power of their rare friendship. Their stories affirm the values that ultimately sustained and drove them: courage, tenacity, and faith. And they give
tribute to the life of the mind and its power to turn dreams into reality.

Produced and Directed by Andrea Kalin
Executive Producer: Bill Duke
