Is it possible to Prevent Wage Ganishment in TEXAS on a Private Student Loan?

December 17th, 2008 by admin

I took out a Private Student Loan to go to a foreign medical school in England, but based in Africa. I borrowed $130,000 from TERI and MEDACHIEVER and now AES owns it. They say I owe them $190,000 now just 2 years after I graduated!! In 10 years I will owe $475,000. What the heck. Anyways, I will soon be sued or they will lose right to do so, well in 5 years. I kept it deferred for 2 years. I am never going to be an MD as the school was real bad and not even a real medical school. If I move to TEXAS that has a law forbidding wage garnishment except on federal loans, then will I be protected? Will I be protected when they take me to court if I move to Texas before I am sued. I live in Florida right now. The people that cosigned my loan for only $80,000 of the $190,000 live in Florida and aren't moving right now. Well anywyas, if I can move to Texas to prevent wage garnishment on these Private Student Loans I will. If I ever save up enough cash I'll try to settle the original debt minus%

Although this is a private loan, it falls under the same guidelines as other Federal loans. So yes, they can attach your wages and any income tax refund (man I miss those) you may be eligible for. Plus, your co-signer is just a responsible for the loan as you, so their wages may be garnished and tax refunds withheld until the loan is paid in full. Plus negative marks on you and the co-signers credit will prevent any credit, mortgages and may hurt employment opportunities and even auto, home and life insurance!

If the school is a scam, you should contact the Department of Education. The school should not be eligible for ANY student loans, Federal or private. Plus, you may get a portion, if not all, of the funds forgiven.

Don't cut and run! If you keep the lines of communication open and honest, you will get this issue resolved.

Do you know of a company that will certify a foreign medical degree? The degree is in Chinese and English.?

December 15th, 2008 by admin

The degreee is in Chinese and English, but US interviewers are skeptical; they do not know what to make of the degree. If a Chinese med school graduate wants to practice Medicine in the US there is a company called ECFMG, but they do not certify the Chinese medical degree. Thank you in advance.

obtaining medical license in new jersey?

December 13th, 2008 by admin

If I am coming from a foreign medical school, is there anything stopping me from obtaining a license in NJ after I complete my residency in another state?

There might be. Check and be sure that your credentials match those that are required in NJ.

Nursing program for foreign medical graduates?

December 12th, 2008 by admin

If a foreign medical graduate decides to shift into a nursing career, how should one go about it? It seems as if there’s a number of nursing programs out there that it’s so confusing. From where I’m from, after you graduate from high school and want to be a nurse all you do is enroll in a 4yr bachelors degree in nursing. Been in US for almost 2 yrs now and I’ve tried looking into online nursing programs since I do work right now however the answers i’ve gotten are too vague and confusing. Is an accelerated nursing program the same as BSN?

IN the US there are 2 basic types of nurses:
1. the LPN or LVN–this is a vocational or practical nurse. The program is about 1 year long and its through a vocational college. They have less training than an RN

2. The RN (or registered nurse). This can be obtained through a community college’s associates program (ADN) (2 year core) or a 4 year bachelors program (BSRN). AFter you graduate either one you take the NCLEX exam to get the “registered ” part.

An accelerated nursing program is for someone with either a ADN already wishing to get a bachelors or some one with a bachelors in another subject wishing to get a BSRN (depends on which program you are looking at).

There are no online nursing programs for the initial nurse education. On-lines are some one in the above paragraph–already a nurse moving up.

Good luck

HIGHSCHOOL to Foreign MEDICAL SCHOOL?

December 10th, 2008 by admin

what is the best foreign (outside of U.S) to get into with a 3.2 gpa coming stright out of highschool..(nd dont say that its not possible to go stright o medical school frm highschool cuz i can gureentee that it is)..but yeah :) if u can help me that would be awsome…thanks:)!

You are quite right, in the UK you usually go straight into Medicine as an undergraduate out of high school. Too many flat-earthers on this forum!

The best universities for Medicine in the UK are Imperial College, London, Cambridge and University College, London.

However, you don’t stand a chance of getting accepted with a 3.2 gpa. Sorry.
