Jesse had an unusually hard time keeping a job. If truth be told, due to his indolence and lack of incentive, he was jobless far more regularly than he was employed with a job. And when he did land a job, he had an extremely hard time getting to work when his shift began, he often received less than optimal performance assessments, and he called off sick so regularly that he commonly got fired just a few weeks after he started working. To no one’s astonishment, one of the outcomes of Jesse’s shameful work record was the fact that he was just about flat broke almost on a daily basis.

In spite of Jesse’s terrible work track record and financial lack of attention, however, one way or another he made it his business to drink a great deal on an everyday basis.

So it came as no big surprise when Jesse got a fifth DUI. When he went to court, the judge told Jesse that his alcohol-related conduct was appalling and, consequently, he was going to sentence Jesse to spend eight months locked up in jail.

Time While Locked Up In Jail To Think About The Harmful Results of Excessive Drinking

During his time behind bars, Jesse was expected to learn more about alcohol facts, about the distressing outcomes of excessive and abusive drinking, and he was required to get alcohol rehab. The magistrate emphasized the fact that unless Jesse receives professional alcohol counseling and discovers how to live a life of abstinence, he will more likely than not be spending a considerable amount of time placed behind bars.

Jesse said that he understood what the judge was pronouncing but he still proclaimed that incarceration was not the right response. The judge thought otherwise and claimed that it was his job to keep alcoholics off the streets who drink and drive and who receive multiple DUIs. To substantiate this perspective, the judge outlined some honored, highly researched alcohol statistics that underscored some of the destructive effects that are correlated with hazardous drinking.

Although Jesse comprehended that he drank in an abusive and hazardous manner, he never felt that he was an alcohol addicted individual. So it was a real bombshell when Jesse began experiencing alcohol withdrawal symptoms just about three hours after going to jail.

To manage his alcohol withdrawals in a safe and secure manner, Jesse was transferred to a drug and alcohol treatment hospital for alcohol detox and then returned to the county jail. While locked up in the city jail Jesse undertook alcohol rehabilitation but due to the fact that he got this therapy as something that was mandated for him, he was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his excessive and irresponsible drinking.

When his time in the local jail was finished, the magistrate without faltering announced to Jesse that he would be under stringent surveillance and would be mandated to take periodic alcohol tests.

Jessie’s Excessive and Abusive Drinking Prevents Him From Living in a Productive and Responsible Manner

After hearing how Jesse was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his drinking situation and how he halfheartedly followed the counseling regimen while in the county jail, the judge knew that it was just a matter of time before he would be seeing Jesse once again in court about his abusive and irresponsible drinking behavior. As the magistrate thought about Jesse’s situation, he couldn’t help but think about how some individuals never use common sense and learn how to live in a productive and accountable manner.

Daniel had been engaging in excessive drinking behavior since her freshman year in college. Now, six years later, she drank more than ever. One Saturday night when she was feeling ill, Daniel made up her mind to stay home, loosen up, and watch TV.

While trying to find a special program to watch that she would find fascinating, she immediately became attracted to a program about teenage and young adult drinking difficulties.

When Everyday Alcohol Addiction Signs and Symptoms are Revealed by Individuals Dependent on Alcohol

The spokesperson went over the difference between alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse and then discussed the topic of alcoholic symptoms and alcoholism warning signs. When the speaker went into detail about a person’s alcoholic behavior and some of the more familiar alcohol dependency signs and symptoms that alcohol addicted people display, Daniel got quite alarmed because it basically seemed as if the narrator was talking explicitly to her.

After watching the television program, Daniel made a promise to herself that she would call her doctor the following morning and make an appointment to discuss her drinking problem.

When the following morning arrived, true to her word, Daniel called her health care professional and made an appointment. In the meantime, she went on the web and did a search for alcoholic symptoms. Especially difficult were the following symptoms or signs: sleep problems, increasing irritability, sneaking extra drinks before social events, making excuses to drink at virtually every opportunity, and serious relationship and work-related problems.

In short, since Daniel exhibited all of these symptoms she went deeper in her online search and found several websites and blogs that highlighted diverse alcohol dependency symptoms and warning signs.

One of the signs that really caught her attention was the following: “Do you ever drink after stating to yourself that you won’t?” While Daniel never came to grips with the fact that she may have a critical drinking difficulty, after reading about the different alcohol dependency warning signs and symptoms, she couldn’t deny the fact that for the past ten or eleven months, she continually tried but was not successful at greatly reducing her drinking or totally quitting.

When Relatives Hassle You by Frowning on Your Excessive Drinking Behavior

Another alcohol dependency sign that captured her attention was the following: “Have friends upset you by criticizing your problem drinking?” When Daniel read this she immediately called to mind a recent disagreement she had with her aunt about her hazardous drinking. Moreover, Daniel without a doubt called to mind a recent fight she had with her parents about her irresponsible drinking. Due to the fact that Daniel truthfully believed that she didn’t have a drinking problem, when family members talked about her drinking she of course got bothered and irritated.

A third alcohol dependency symptom was the following: “Do you crave a drink when you first awaken in the morning?” Until now, Daniel had been deceitful with herself about her drinking situation. After reading about the aforementioned alcoholism warning signs, conversely, she knew if she was really candid with herself that she was facing a critical drinking problem, especially given the fact that she now felt that she needed a drink the first thing in the morning to lessen her constant worry.

If this wasn’t enough, the next alcohol addiction warning sign really got her thinking about her drinking situation: “Do you drink to escape from reality of trouble?” When she thought about her life for a few minutes, she understood that practically in every rough situation in the past three or four months, she told herself that she needed a drink to help deal with the disarray in her life.

The final alcoholic symptom that made her feel somewhat stressed about her drinking difficulty was the following: “Has your ambition declined since you started drinking more frequently?” When Daniel read this sign she without a doubt comprehended that drinking had become a serious difficulty in her life because of her diminished energy level and also because she quit pursuing her goals and her passions.

Summary: When Getting Disheartened Turns Into Something Thrilling and A Sense of Optimism

After thinking about all of these negative alcohol dependency symptoms and signs, Daniel at first felt sad. Then something thrilling took place. She reflected on the fact knew that she was going to see her health care provider about her drinking problems and she also realized that she would discuss all of the above alcohol dependency warning symptoms and signs with her. In fact, for the first time in numerous months, Daniel truthfully felt a sense of hopefulness because she was dealing with her drinking issues and was finally ready to make the needed adjustments so that she could re-establish the life that was drifting away.

It is interesting to bring up something that family members who have been unfavorably affected by the alcohol addiction of another family member plainly do not grasp. It seems to be that by protecting the alcohol addicted person with falsehoods and deceitfulness to those outside the family, these well-intentioned family members have essentially created a circumstance that makes it easier for the alcohol addicted individual to continue and move forward with his or her negative, detrimental existence.

Without a doubt, rather than helping the alcohol dependent individual and themselves, these family members have in fact become enablers who have involuntarily helped deteriorate the alcoholic’s drinking problem even further.

Perhaps the real downside of this is that the alcohol addicted person will continue drinking in an abusive and excessive manner and go through a range of “alcohol side effects.” Some of these side effects include deteriorating relationships, employment difficulties, ill health, diminished mental functioning, serious financial problems, and legal issues (such as getting arrested for one or more DWIs).

The Chances of a Relapse are Real

According to the research findings and statistics on alcohol dependency, another key alcoholism issue has to do with alcohol relapses. Relapses take place when an alcohol addicted person has fruitfully gone through alcoholism treatment and then returns to drinking a number of weeks or months later. At first thought, this predicament seems contradictory to common sense and appears to be so far-fetched that it forces a person to question why anyone who has gone through the dreadfulness of alcohol addiction can return to drinking a short while after effective alcohol treatment and in turn after achieving recovery. There are, to be sure, numerous conceivable reasons for this.

It should be explained, on the other hand that alcohol dependency research that has focused on the long-term effects of alcoholism has revealed that long after the alcohol dependent person has discontinued his or her drinking, key transformations in the way in which the alcohol dependent individual’s brain works are still present. As a consequence, all a recovering alcohol addicted individual has to do to involve himself or herself in actions that correspond with the transformations that have occurred in the brain is to engage in drinking once again.

A Requirement for A Fundamental Lifestyle Modification

There are even more reasons why numerous recovering alcoholics return to drinking a few weeks or a few months after reaching sobriety. According to the alcohol dependency research literature, to make a successful recovery, the alcoholic needs new ways of responding and thinking in order to deal more competently with taxing alcohol-related situations that will take place.

Conditions such as returning to the same alcohol addictive atmosphere or to the same geographic location; interacting once again with friends from the time when the alcohol dependent person was drinking excessively; or familiar songs, smells, or activities—all of these conditions can elicit memories that can prompt psychological tension or push hot buttons that influence the recovering alcohol dependent individual to engage in abusive drinking once again. Sadly, all of these situations may not only counteract enduring sobriety for the alcoholic but they can also lead to relapse and as a result negate one’s alcohol recovery.

The Good News: There’s a Lot of Hope for a Lasting Recovery

In an attempt to “protect” the family alcoholic, family members can in fact cause unintentional harm by enabling the unsafe drinking behavior of the alcoholic.

The addiction research literature validates the fact that most individuals who successfully complete alcohol therapy go through at least one relapse. Alcohol dependent persons and their family members need to know this so that they do not get depressed or stressed out when a relapse happens.

Happily, taking part in support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and follow-up counseling and training have resulted in more successful, long-term alcohol abuse and alcoholism treatment results, have helped reduce alcohol relapses, and have helped recovering alcohol addicted individuals reach lasting alcohol recovery.

It is interesting to articulate something that family members who have been harmfully affected by the alcohol dependency of another family member evidently do not grasp. It seems to be that by shielding the alcohol dependent person with untruths and deceit to those outside the family, these well-intentioned family members have in reality created a situation that makes it easier for the alcohol addicted individual to persist and press forward with his or her harmful, detrimental existence.

In fact, rather than helping the alcohol dependent person and themselves, these family members have basically become enablers who have unintentionally helped deteriorate the alcoholic’s drinking problem even more.

Perhaps the real downside of this is that the alcohol addicted individual will continue drinking in an irresponsible and excessive manner and suffer from a variety of “alcohol side effects.” Some of these side effects include poor health, deteriorating relationships, considerable financial problems, employment difficulties, legal issues (such as getting arrested for one or more DUIs), and diminished mental functioning.

Relapses Can and Do Transpire

According to the research literature and statistics on alcohol addiction, another key alcohol addiction issue concerns alcohol relapses. Relapses take place when an alcohol addicted individual has fruitfully undergone alcohol addiction therapy and then resorts to drinking a number of weeks or months later. At first thought, this circumstance flies in the face of commonsensical thinking and sounds so improbable that it forces a person to speculate why anyone who has lived through the terror of alcoholism can return to drinking a short while after successful alcohol treatment and in turn after reaching sobriety. There are, to be sure, many plausible reasons for this.

It should be pointed out, nevertheless that alcohol addiction research that has focused on the enduring consequences of alcohol addiction has demonstrated-proven that long after the alcohol addicted person has halted his or her drinking, key alterations in the way in which the alcoholic’s brain operates are still present. As a consequence, all a recovering alcohol addicted individual has to do to involve himself or herself in behaviors that correspond with the modifications that have taken place in the brain is to engage in drinking once again.

The Necessity for A Crucial Lifestyle Modification

There are other reasons why several recovering alcohol dependent persons return to drinking a few weeks or a few months after attaining sobriety. In accordance to the alcohol dependency research literature, to make an effective recovery, the alcohol dependent individual needs new ways of reacting and thinking in order to deal more successfully with difficult alcohol-related situations that will take place.

Issues such as returning to the same alcohol addictive atmosphere or to the same geographic location; interacting once again with friends from the days when the alcohol addicted individual was drinking in a hazardous manner; or familiar songs, smells, or activities—all of these situations can bring about memories that can set off psychological anxiety or push hot buttons that influence the recovering alcohol dependent individual to engage in abusive drinking once again. Regrettably, all of these situations may not only get in the way of long lasting sobriety for the alcohol addicted person but they can also result in relapse and consequently circumvent one’s sobriety.

The Good News: There’s a Lot of Hope for Lasting Sobriety

In an attempt to “protect” the family alcoholic, family members can actually cause unplanned harm by enabling the unhealthy drinking behavior of the alcohol dependent individual.

The substance abuse research literature demonstrates the fact that most people who effectively complete alcohol rehab experience at least one relapse. Alcohol dependent individuals and their family members need to know this so that they do not get crestfallen or overwhelmed when a relapse occurs.

Happily, taking part in support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous and follow-up treatment and education have resulted in more effective, enduring alcohol abuse and alcoholism rehab results, have helped decrease alcohol relapses, and have helped recovering alcoholics achieve long-term alcohol recovery.

What are the key components in a productive alcohol intervention? Why do some alcohol interventions work while more than a few bomb?

The Requirement for an Acclaimed Record of Intervention Success

Scientific research reveals that a “winning” alcohol abuse intervention needs to be directed by an intervention expert who has a well-known track record of intervention achievement.

In essence this means that instead of deciding upon a “normal” alcoholism counselor or psychologist for an alcohol abuse intervention, the individual who is hand picked to conduct the intervention needs to be educated in alcohol abuse intervention procedures and needs to exhibit a reputation of effective alcohol interventions.

A Few Straightforward Examples of The Best Time For an Alcoholism Intervention

Scientific investigation and alcoholism facts about interventions has also revealed that the most advantageous time for an alcoholism intervention is following a special incident in the life of the alcoholic or alcohol abuser. The following represents a few examples of these types of meaningful incidents:

The alcohol addicted person or alcohol abuser has been caught stealing something of worth.

The abusive drinker or alcohol dependent individual has been caught lying about something of importance.

The alcohol addicted individual or alcohol abuser has been arrested for driving under the influence.

In situations such as these, the alcoholic or abusive drinker is more apt to be regretful or to be embarrassed, thusly making him or her more interested in getting the professional alcohol rehab that is required.

At this point in time, moreover, it is also essential to stress the fact that the alcohol abuser or alcohol-dependent person needs to be alcohol-free during the alcohol intervention. To sum up, if the alcohol abuser or alcohol-dependent person is intoxicated during an alcoholism intervention, failure is practically guaranteed.

In the same way, scientific examination has also made evident the fact that the alcohol abuser or alcoholic has to at least try to listen to what is said in an alcohol addiction intervention. That is, during an alcohol abuse intervention, the abusive drinker or alcohol addicted individual needs to listen to what his or her drinking behavior has done to those who care for him or her the most.

The Impact of Alcohol Rehabilitation For the Irresponsible Drinker

And lastly, scientific inquiry makes evident the fact that the major reason for an alcohol intervention in the first place is to encourage the alcohol abuser or alcohol addicted person to get the professional alcoholism treatment that is required. Stated differently, even if the person who administers the intervention has an exceptional record of effective interventions and even if the alcohol abuser or alcohol addicted person truly listens to every single word that is declared during an intervention, if the hazardous drinker or alcohol dependent individual is not motivated to get quality alcoholism counseling after the alcohol intervention, then the intervention will be a fiasco.

Plainly all of these factors are needed for a fruitful alcohol dependency intervention. If, alternatively, the alcohol abuser or alcohol addicted individual is not stirred to request alcohol abuse treatment after listening to his or her family members state the sorrow, anger, and displeasure they feel about the abusive drinker’s or alcohol addicted individual’s careless drinking behavior and the care they feel for the problem drinker, then every other aspect of the alcohol dependency intervention will for the most part be inconsequential.

Even Effective Alcohol Abuse Interventions Can Go Wrong In the Long Term

It also needs to be emphasized that regardless of the fact that the alcohol intervention can be perceived as fruitful in that it helped put the hazardous drinker or alcohol dependent individual in a more receptive outlook and in truth helped the alcoholic or abusive drinker determine that he or she required alcohol treatment or professional help for alcoholism or alcohol abuse, the plain fact that the intervention transpired might lead to resentment, wrath, and distrust in the future.

In a few words, even when alcohol addiction interventions are seen as productive in the short run, in the long term, on the other hand, they may go wrong and, as a consequence, might make the family and/or the alcohol dependent individual’s situation even worse than it was before the alcohol intervention was undertaken.

No matter how unwarranted or ironic this seems, try to keep in mind that it is basically one of the fundamental alcohol facts that has to be dealt with when undertaking an alcohol intervention.

How do you know that you have a problem with your drinking? When is it evident that you are engaging in abusive drinking?

If you have unsuccessfully attempted to discontinue your drinking or if you promised yourself that your drinking days are behind you and then you recognized that you were drinking abusively just a few days later, chances are quite good that you have drinking problems. The point of emphasis is that if you have tried to quit drinking and cannot do this, then your drinking is controlling you, rather than the other way around.

In a similar manner, if it takes larger amounts of alcohol to get the same “high,” you probably need to become aware that you have a problem with your drinking.

You may be telling yourself that the reason for your drinking is so that you can decrease your nervous tension or get rid of the distress that you feel. Likewise, you may be trying to avoid a hurtful situation and may be looking for something more beneficial, more favorable, or less mournful.

As you continue to drink, conversely, you will realize that drinking does not result in the same high and you will also realize that drinking doesn’t help get rid of whatever elicited your problem in the first place.

As you continue to drink in a hazardous manner, regrettably, you may become alcohol dependent and, as a result, you may add another critical problem to deal with rather than finding out about more effective and healthy ways of coping with your alcohol produced difficulties.

The Need for an Alcohol Appraisal

If you have figured out that you have a drinking problem, perchance the most positive thing you can do for yourself is to call your medical doctor or healthcare professional and schedule an appointment for a complete physical and for an appraisal of your drinking circumstances.

If you really believe that you have a serious drinking problem, it might be a good idea to get prepared to hear that you need to get alcohol rehab.

At this point in your life, what are your alternatives? You can unquestionably decide against seeing your doctor and persevere with your pattern of out-of-control drinking.

It certainly doesn’t take a genius, conversely, to understand that long-term, excessive drinking, if left untreated, will get worse over time and more likely than not lead to an early death. Accordingly, your most positive choice is to face up to your drinking problem and obtain the alcohol counseling you require.

The Pretense of the Functioning Alcohol Dependent Person

It is somewhat odd to note the fact that many people who are alcohol dependent lead busy and active lives and have houses, pets, families, vehicles, jobs, and any number of material possessions just like people who are not addicted to alcohol.

Many of these “functional” alcohol addicted people may have never been cited for drunk driving and may have been fortunate enough to avoid all alcohol-related legal difficulties. In spite of this fortunate situation, on the other hand, these alcohol dependent people need to drink in order to live on a day by day basis while upholding their facade as they associate with people outside their family.

Ask anyone who has seen them when they are bingeing or in a drunken stupor or ask a family member about the problem drinker’s alcohol dependency, nonetheless, and they will be quick to assert the legitimacy of the drinker’s situation and the facts about the alcohol dependent person’s drinking predicament and about his or her alcohol induced problems.

Why Do Alcohol Dependent Individuals Fail to Address Their Drinking Difficulties?

As alcoholism research and statistics on alcohol abuse have highlighted, no matter how observable the alcohol generated issues seem to those who interact with the alcoholic, alcoholic individuals often deny that drinking is the root of their alcohol induced predicaments. Not only this, but alcohol addicted individuals usually blame their alcohol induced predicaments on other people or upon other situations around them instead of seeing their part in the difficulty.

The root of the problem is that alcohol dependency is a disease of the brain. Once the alcohol abuser has become an alcoholic, he or she normally resorts to denial, manipulation, and dishonesty as a way of dealing with the fact that his or her drinking is out of control. And to make matters worse, the experience of alcohol withdrawal symptoms typically thwarts the alcohol addicted individual’s rare attempts to suddenly quit drinking. As bleak as the alcoholic’s existence is, however, the positive news is that competent help is typically obtainable – if the alcoholic reaches out and tries to get alcoholism therapy.

Conclusion

Admitting the fact that drinking is producing difficulties in your day by day functioning is perhaps the simplest way to find out if you have a problem with your drinking. Stated more precisely, if your drinking is triggering difficulties with your health, at work, in your relationships, with your finances, at school, or with the legal system, then you have a drinking problem that needs to be resolved.

If you have a problem with your drinking, furthermore, this means that you are involving yourself in irresponsible drinking.

While some drinkers may be able to come to grips with their “alcohol signs,” pinpoint their problems, and significantly reduce the amount and rate of their drinking, other drinkers, on the other hand, need to address their drinking difficulties by getting professional alcoholism treatment. What is more, due to their tendency to deny the facts and alter the truth, alcohol addicted people undeniably require professional alcoholism therapy for their hazardous drinking.

What are the significant components in a productive alcohol intervention? Why do some addiction interventions succeed as planned while several fail?

The Requirement for a Time-Honored Reputation of Intervention Accomplishment

Scientific exploration reveals that an effective alcohol abuse intervention needs to be directed by an intervention expert who has a celebrated reputation of intervention accomplishment.

Essentially this means that instead of choosing an “everyday” alcohol abuse healthcare practitioner or psychologist for an alcohol addiction intervention, the person who is decided upon to manage the intervention needs to be educated in alcohol addiction intervention methods and needs to possess a record of successful alcohol abuse interventions.

A Few Straightforward Examples of The Best Time For an Alcohol Intervention

Scientific examination and alcoholism facts about interventions has also made evident the fact that the best possible time for an alcoholism intervention is following a noteworthy “happening” in the life of the alcohol dependent individual or abusive drinker. The following represents a few examples of these kinds of significant occasions:

The alcohol dependent individual or abusive drinker has been caught stealing something of value.

The abusive drinker or alcohol addicted individual has been caught lying about something of consequence.

The alcoholic or abusive drinker has been arrested for a DWI or DUI.

In circumstances such as these, the alcoholic or abusive drinker is more apt to be remorseful or to feel guilty, thusly making him or her more amenable to getting the quality alcohol rehab that is necessary.

At this moment in time, moreover, it is also important to mention that the abusive drinker or alcoholic needs to be free of alcohol during the alcohol abuse intervention. In sum, if the alcohol abuser or alcohol addicted individual is inebriated during an alcohol dependency intervention, the lack of success is effectively guaranteed.

In much the same way, scientific analysis has also made obvious the fact that the abusive drinker or alcohol dependent individual has to at least try to listen to what is said in an alcoholism intervention. Stated more precisely, during an alcohol abuse intervention, the hazardous drinker or alcohol addicted individual needs to listen to what his or her problem drinking has done to those who care for him or her the most.

The Importance of Alcohol Counseling For the Abusive Drinker

And finally, scientific investigation displays that the major reason for an alcoholism intervention in the first place is to induce the abusive drinker or alcoholic to get the quality alcohol abuse treatment he or she requires. In other words, even if the individual who manages the intervention has a marvelous track record of successful interventions and even if the abusive drinker or alcohol addicted individual openly listens to every single word that is mentioned during the course of an intervention, if the alcohol abuser or alcohol addicted individual is not moved to get professional alcoholism counseling after the alcohol addiction intervention, then the intervention will be a fiasco.

Clearly all of these factors are needed for a successful alcoholism intervention. If, nonetheless, the hazardous drinker or alcohol addicted individual is not stimulated to obtain alcohol dependency treatment after listening to his or her family members express the hurt, anger, and frustration they feel about the alcohol abuser’s or alcohol dependent individual’s hazardous drinking behavior and the concern they feel for the problem drinker, then every other facet of the alcoholism intervention will fundamentally be worthless.

Even Productive Alcohol Abuse Interventions Can Boomerang In the Long Term

It also needs to be pointed out that in spite of the fact that the alcohol abuse intervention can be seen as effective in that it helped put the abusive drinker or alcohol-dependent person in a more “open” mentality and in truth helped the alcoholic or abusive drinker deduce that he or she needed alcohol therapy or professional help for alcoholism or alcohol abuse, the sheer reality that the intervention transpired might lead to bitterness, anger, and suspicion in the future.

Briefly, even when addiction interventions are seen as successful in the short run, in the long term, then again, they may boomerang and, hence, might make the family and/or the alcohol dependent person’s circumstance even poorer than it was before the alcohol intervention took place.

No matter how unjust or ironic this seems, try to keep in mind that it is essentially one of the central alcohol facts that has to be dealt with when undertaking an alcohol intervention.

How do you recognize that you have a drinking problem? When is it evident that you are engaging in excessive drinking?

If you have hopelessly attempted to stop drinking or if you have given your word to yourself that your drinking days are over and then you were made aware that you were drinking in a hazardous manner just a few days later, the odds are extremely good that you have drinking problems. The key point is that if you have tried to quit drinking and cannot complete the task, then your drinking is controlling you, rather than the other way around.

In much the same way, if it takes larger amounts of alcohol to get the same “high,” you probably need to become aware that you have a drinking problem.

You may be telling yourself that the rationale for your drinking is so that you can lessen your nervous tension or get rid of the agony that you feel. In much the same way, you may be trying to steer clear of an unsafe situation and may be looking for something more useful, more favorable, or less mournful.

As you keep on drinking, on the other hand, you will realize that drinking does not produce the same high and you will also understand that drinking doesn’t help remove whatever was causing your problem in the first place.

As you continue to drink in an excessive way, sadly, you may become addicted to alcohol and, as a consequence, you may add another pivotal problem to deal with rather than finding more effective and beneficial ways of managing your alcohol produced problems.

The Need for an Alcohol Appraisal

If you have decided that you have a problem with your drinking, possibly the most expedient thing you can do for yourself is to call your physician or healthcare provider and arrange for an appointment for a thorough physical and for a review of your drinking behavior.

If you honestly think that you have a serious problem with your drinking, it might be a good idea to get prepared to find out that you need to get alcohol rehab.

At this point in time, what are your options? You can positively decide against seeing your physician and carry on with your pattern of hazardous drinking.

It certainly doesn’t take a rocket scientist, nonetheless, to comprehend that chronic, excessive drinking, if left untreated, will go downhill over time and most likely set in motion an early death. Consequently, your best choice is to confront your drinking situation and obtain the alcohol counseling you need.

The Charade of the Functioning Alcoholic

It is somewhat odd to note the fact that multitudes of alcohol dependent people lead busy and active lives and have families, jobs, houses, vehicles, pets, and any number of material possessions similar to people who are not addicted to alcohol.

Many of these “functional” alcohol addicted individuals may have never been apprehended for drunk driving and may have been fortunate enough to avoid all alcohol induced legal predicaments. In spite of this good fortune, to the contrary, these alcohol addicted individuals need to drink in order to operate on a daily basis while maintaining their facade as they associate with people outside their family.

Ask anyone who has seen them when they are bingeing or in a drunken stupor or ask a family member about the problem drinker’s alcoholism, nevertheless, and they will be quick to assert the validity of the drinker’s situation and the particulars about the alcohol addicted individual’s drinking circumstances and about his or her alcohol generated issues.

Why Do Alcohol Addicted People Fail to See Their Drinking Difficulties?

As alcoholism research and statistics on alcohol abuse have accentualted, no matter how clear the alcohol-related problems seem to those who interact with the alcohol addicted individual, alcoholic individuals regularly deny that drinking is the root of their alcohol generated predicaments. Not only this, but alcohol addicted individuals frequently blame their alcohol-related issues on other individuals or upon other circumstances that surround them instead of seeing their part in the issue.

The source of the problem is that alcoholism is a disease of the brain. Once the person has become alcohol dependent, he or she frequently resorts to denial, manipulation, and lying as a way of dealing with the fact that his or her drinking is out of control. And to make the situation more difficult, the experience of alcohol withdrawal symptoms characteristically counteracts the alcohol dependent person’s rare attempts to suddenly quit drinking. As dreary as the alcoholic’s existence is, nonetheless, the positive news is that competent help is usually obtainable – if the alcohol dependent individual reaches out and gets alcohol therapy.

Conclusion

Owning up to the fact that drinking is eliciting difficulties in your day by day functioning is conceivably the most trouble-free way to find out if you have a problem with your drinking. More to the point, if your drinking is producing problems with your health, with your employment, in your relationships, with your finances, at school, or with the law, then you have a drinking problem that needs to be dealt with.

If you have a drinking problem, furthermore, this means that you are getting involved with hazardous drinking.

While some people may be able to come to grips with their “alcohol signs,” pinpoint their difficulties, and substantially decrease the quantity and rate of their drinking, others, nevertheless, need to manage their drinking difficulties by getting quality alcoholism treatment. What’s more, due to their tendency to deny the facts and twist the truth, alcoholics without a doubt require proficient alcoholism counseling for their irresponsible drinking.

Sarah and Jerry have been married for four years. They wanted to have some fun and excitement before they made up their minds to have a family and so they with forethought established a very exciting social life.

The primary issue, it needs to be emphasized, is that very nearly everything they do with their family and friends has something to do with drinking. For example, all of the sporting events, parties with friends, family get-togethers, dinner engagements, and happy hours they go to have something to do with drinking.

Jerry and Sarah Begin to Perceive Some Definite Alcohol Related Problems That are Without a Doubt Related to Their Hazardous Drinking

If they were responsible or moderate drinkers, this wouldn’t be a big problem. Since they drink quite excessively, nonetheless, they are starting to observe some obvious alcohol-related issues in their lives.

As an illustration, just four days ago Jerry was arrested for his first DWI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work because of alcohol-related health issues. Moreover, Jerry’s last two performance assessments at work have been less than passable and he has begun to fail to recall what he says or does the times that he drinks. As a final point, Jerry has been going through sleep-related problems and his family is starting to show concern about his drinking circumstances.

Similarly, Sarah has been feeling depressed with life and to come to grips with these feelings, she has been drinking more than any time in the past seven months. Furthermore, Sarah has been experiencing more than a few migraine headaches and suffering from very bad hangovers because of her drinking. Finally, Sarah has been feeling significantly less energetic when she awakens in the morning, she has been getting to work late almost every Monday, and she has been getting some unsympathetic criticism from her friends, coworkers, relatives, and family members about her irresponsible drinking.

Watching the Television and Going Through the Channels and Finding An Attention-Grabbing Program About the Signs of Alcohol Addiction

One Sunday evening while watching TV, Jerry and Sarah without any planning whatsoever found a special program about the signs of alcoholism.

This television documentary was a real source of revelation to Jerry and Sarah because numerous alcoholism signs that were listed looked as if they were indubitably linked to several of the alcohol-related drinking problems Jerry and Sarah had been experiencing.

A Straightforward Discussion About Drinking Behavior Unearths Alcohol Related Legal, Health, Financial, Relationship, and Employment Problems

After watching the television special, Sarah and Jerry determined that they needed to have a frank conversation about their drinking activities. They both concurred that most, if not all, of their social functions had something to do with drinking, that they were drinking in an irresponsible manner, and that as a couple, they were starting to see alcohol related legal, health, employment, financial, and relationship problems for the first time since they were married.

With thoughts of the TV special still running through her mind, Sarah asked Jerry if some of the alcohol dependency signs they have been exhibiting could be an indication that they are dependent on alcohol or maybe becoming addicted to alcohol. Jerry didn’t know the answer to Sarah’s question and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the therapists at the nearby alcohol abuse treatment center to find out more about the severity of their drinking problems.

Focusing On Your Drinking Problems May Lessen Your Sense of Dread and Give You A Sense of Calm

Paradoxically, even though their drinking situation hadn’t yet changed, it was plain to see that Sarah and Jerry were at the very least focusing on their drinking problems, they were enthusiastic about finding out more about their drinking behavior, and they were interested in finding out how they could substantially cut back on or do away with the alcohol-related difficulties that had started to emerge.

When Sarah and Jerry went to bed that night, they came to a decision that the next morning, Jerry would call and make an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic located just North of the State Capital. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to cope with the alcohol-related problems that had become apparent in their lives, they truly had the most energizing night’s sleep they could remember in the last five weeks.

Just before he fell asleep, Jerry turned to Sarah and remarked how easy it is to reduce one’s fear and actually experience a degree of peacefulness by facing one’s problems with personal integrity and deciding to do something constructive about them.

For a number of years alcoholism research has demonstrated the fact that there is strong linkage between alcoholism and serious health conditions.

For instance, in 2005, medical examination and alcohol abuse and alcoholism statistics revealed that alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency cost the United States an estimated $220 billion per year. Interestingly, this gigantic alcohol-related cash outlay was substantially more than the cost associated with cancer ($196 billion) or with obesity ($133 billion). While it is relevant to give emphasis to these facts, it is also noteworthy to emphasize the point that an interrelationship exists between all three of these health problems.

Stated another way, chronic alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction are also highly associated with obesity and with cancer.

Definitely, substance abuse examination has revealed that alcohol addiction can increase the risk for different forms of cancer, especially cancer of the esophagus, kidneys, throat, rectum, liver, voice box (larynx), and the colon. Abusive and recurring drinking can also result in immune system difficulties and deformity to the fetus during pregnancy.

Excessive and Abusive Drinking Deteriorates the Person’s Systems and Organs

What is more, if alcoholism continues over a period of years, the individual’s body organs will likely be affected in an unsafe manner. For example, chronic, abusive drinking is particularly injurious to the liver since the liver does most of the work of processing the alcohol that has been consumed. Unwarranted amounts of alcohol kills liver cells and eradicates the ability of liver cells to regenerate. This medical circumstance results in a progressive inflammatory injury to the liver that can at the end of the day lead to cirrhosis of the liver, a precarious and potentially terminal medical problem.Abusive, long-term drinking not only can result in serious liver damage, but it can also lead to damage to the heart and to the brain. Physical damage this dangerous may be irreparable and may, in turn, lead to serious illness or an early death.

The Significance of Alcohol Counseling

It is critical, therefore, to know how to identify the various alcoholism symptoms and the “alcohol signs” so that the alcohol dependent person can be given the opportunity to seek the quality alcohol rehab he or she requires.

Alcohol Addiction and Sophisticated Brain Exploration

Fortunately, scientific exploration is relentlessly generating innovative and significant information. Recent alcoholism research offers a high-quality illustration. More exactly, for roughly the last ten years, technologically advanced brain-imaging scanning devices have verified that continuous and long lasting excessive drinking alters the structure of the brain to a significant extent, thereby resulting in brain disease that can last months, years, or conceivably as long as the person lives.

More exactly, medical examination has shown that people who have been drinking in a hazardous manner for a sizeable length of time increase their risk for developing lasting and significant adaptations in the brain.

This type of damage may be directly related to the alcohol’s effects on the brain, to severe liver disease, or might be indirectly associated with the drinker’s poor overall health.

Malnutrition, Abusive Drinking, and Mental Disorders

As a final example of diverse medical conditions that are significantly correlated to alcohol addiction, take into consideration the fact that in accordance with scientific exploration, the hazardous and repeated abuse of alcohol can result in erosive gastritis, a health problem that lessens the absorption of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.

This type of organ breakdown is correlated with malnutrition and to a number of serious mental and neurological disorders including sleep disturbances, memory loss, and psychosis such as Wernicke’s Encephalopathy and Korsakoff’s syndrome. This latter medical problem is a long lasting debilitating condition that is typified by recurring learning and memory difficulties.

Summary

It is clear that repetitive, hazardous drinking is directly or indirectly related to a number of dangerous medical problems that can and do result in dangerous illness and premature death. Such information needs to be emphasized and presented to everyone in our society so that most people will be able to abstain from abusive drinking while other people who have a drinking problem will get the quality treatment they need.
